What AI tells customers to check, and how brands score on it

Ask an AI assistant which consumer credit card to apply for, and the first thing it returns is a list of considerations to review: annual fees, approval requirements, payment terms. Brands and product lines come after. The same pattern holds for any AI purchase decision, whether people are looking for a lender, a healthcare provider, a new mobile phone, or a pair of running shoes.

Marketers have long worked from inference about what customers weigh before they buy. Search queries, reviews, and survey responses all gave partial signals. An AI answer states the criteria it prioritizes, in writing, for every response. This intelligence provides brands with a clear view into the topics customers consider before purchasing and directly influences what needs to be conveyed across their product pages, FAQs, and guides.

If a card’s product page omits the annual fee, for example, AI has nothing to cite for the first item on its own checklist, and a competitor’s page or a third-party site with that information fills the gap.

AI’s criteria also differs by audience and by AI channel. For example, ChatGPT ranks Acceptance & Usability as the top category for consumer credit cards, while Google AI Overview ranks the same category at #5, while Costs & Fees hit #1. A brand that fits one ranking can fall short on another AI channel or with another audience, which means a content plan built for one scorecard misses the others.

Bluefish AI Category Intelligence, part of the AI Monitoring Suite, lists the criteria each AI channel uses to assess a category and shows how a brand performs on each one. Content teams can use the list as an audit, checking product pages, FAQs, and guides against it and fixing the largest gaps first. AI Category Intelligence compares each category’s criteria against the topics a brand already monitors in Bluefish and flags any high-ranked criterion the brand is not tracking. Side-by-side views of audiences and AI channels then show where a dedicated message has the best chance of landing.

Categories regenerate daily, and any date range after August 1, 2026 can be compared. Teams can read the scorecard, act on the gaps, and bring performance trends to the quarterly business review.

AI tells customers what to check before they buy. Bluefish AI Category Intelligence shows your brand what those things are, so your content can answer them first.
